Melton detectives are seeking information about an unprovoked assault on a woman in central Melton on Tuesday.

52-year-old ‘Melinda’ was walking in Unitt St at 2.50pm when a male on a pushbike approached her from behind and kicked her in the back.

The attack caused the woman (pictured) to fall forward onto concrete, causing serious injuries.

Three days on, she is still in hospital.

Police said bystanders stopped to assist the woman who has since had surgery.

The offender rode off in the company of a second male – also on a pushbike.

Police have released images of a male they wish to question about the incident.

Both were riding black pushbikes.

Anyone who recognises these males, witnessed the assault or has any information that could help Melton Criminal Investigation Unit detectives is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or file a confidential report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
