The Westgate tunnel project has been in the news for major delays and contaminated PFAS soil issues.

Some concerned travelers have take to social media to warn others of the delays experienced when using the Westgate freeway.

“Heads up everyone. Allow at least an extra hour to get home over the Westgate in peak hour while the roadworks are happening. Took me 2 1/2 hours to get home from Hawthorn today.” – Julie

“Yeah, took me an hour to get through there at 1pm too” – Crystal

Major disruptions are expected until January 11th due to the road closures and reduced capacities.

A post on the Westgate Tunnel project Facebook page says the closures are to facilitate road widening.

“While we widen the West Gate Freeway by two lanes in each direction, please be advised of the following major closures on the West Gate Freeway & M80 Ring Road beginning in January 2021.” – Westgate Tunnel Project Facebook page.

West Gate Freeway
Closed between the M80 Ring Road & Grieve Parade from Wednesday 6 January to Monday 11 January.

Grieve Parade
