A two-car accident on the Western Freeway has led to some serious traffic delays on the Western Freeway, between Bacchus Marsh and Melton.

The first calls to triple-zero came in at 10.02am (Wednesday) to the Ballarat-bound lanes at Brookfield.

Four Fire Rescue Victoria firefighters from Melton attended the scene within eight minutes of the call and worked to washaway debris and make the area safe.

Bacchus Marsh CFA volunteers were also called, but in the end were not required.
