Take a good look around this festive season.
There are a lot of unique gifts, vouchers, produce and wines you can only find in Moorabool.
In fact we’ve heard of Geelong residents who go out of their way to get to get Pootilla potatoes, Melton locals who come to Bacchus Marsh to get craft supplies and Ballarat people who make a point of getting off the freeway to get Ballan sausages.
The list goes on…
“I really think it’s important that people shop locally first,” Moorabool Mayor Tom Sullivan said.
“There are so many things you can get locally – and given the last 12 months we’ve all had, it would be great to support local businesses who have done it tough enough.
“COVID19 and the lockdowns have made us look closer to home for goods and services.”
Cr Sullivan said as the populations of centres like Bacchus Marsh and Ballan grew, so too would the variety of retailers, eateries and experiences.
“When it comes to fresh, home-grown produce, we have oodles of that in this Shire,” he said.
“People travel to us from outside to buy our produce.
“I also think people now are increasingly looking for opportunities to buy directly from farms – or from farmgate-type shops. People are passionate about clean, green food.”
Cr Sullivan said one of his children gave him a Christmas voucher for the Plough Inn last year.
“Look out for local gift vouchers like that because everyone likes a good meal and a night out,” he said.
“It’s an experience – and there are so many great venues around our area.
“Moorabool has a lot to offer.”
