Vandals have struck at the Bacchus Marsh Village Green, dislodging a star on a large public Christmas tree and smashing baubles.

Bacchus Marsh Police will step up patrols of Main Street and the former council offices site after the overnight discovery.

Officers said the tree appeared to have been shaken.

Council staff were reportedly upset about the vandalism this morning (Thursday).

The tree was one of four set up across the Shire as part of a new program to promote local shopping and create some Christmas cheer after a challenging 2020.
