A 24-year-old Melton woman has tragically drowned at Smith’s Beach on the southern coast of Phillip Island.

The woman was with other family members when she got into trouble in the water around 6.40pm Sunday (November 29).

Police said no one saw her enter the water, but she was later found struggling..

Officers said civilians pulled her out of the ocean and performed CPR until emergency services arrived.

Paramedics treated the woman but she died at the scene.

Police are preparing a report for the Coroner.
