Melton police have arrested an 18-year-old man after he was seen at a High Street shopping centre with what appeared to be a firearm.

Officers were alerted at 12.45pm today (Wednesday) after a report from staff at a nearby store.

When police arrived, the West Melton man attempted to run from the centre, but was swiftly arrested.

Police allege he was found with an imitation firearm.

He was taken to Melton police station and interviewed.

He has been charged with possessing an imitation firearm and was bailed to appear before Sunshine Magistrates’ Court on 26 August 2021.
