The Major Collision Investigation Unit has charged a 59-year-old man over a collision which led to the death of a Caroline Springs driver.

The Mount Martha man has been bailed to appear at Melbourne Magistrates Court on November 13 and is accused of dangerous driving causing death.

The fatal multi-vehicle collision took place on the Princes Freeway at Laverton on Tuesday April 21.

Detectives allege a Ford Ranger ute towing a trailer was travelling in the Geelong-bound lanes when it collided nose-to-tail with three other cars near Kororoit Creek Road about 5.50am – about half an hour before sunrise.

The collision caused a white Kia sedan – driven by the 57-year-old Caroline Springs man – to veer across the freeway where it was struck by two trucks.
