Last week, social media was buzzing about Telstra reception issues. Well, it looks like its going to happen again for up to 6 days according to a message sent out to customers this morning.

The message says works will start to upgrade towers from 14th September.

“Rather than turning off all the base stations at one time, to enable some mobile coverage in the area to continue we are staggering the work we are doing across different sites and days,” Telstra Regional General Manager Steve Tinker said.

Mr Tinker apologized for the outages and said customers would be sent text messages, depending on the area they were in and the tower being upgraded.

“We know there’s never a perfect time to schedule upgrade work and we apologise for the interruption but once we’re finished it’ll mean better services for our customers,” he said.

“Some businesses may notice an impact to their EFTPOS terminals if they use Telstra’s 3G or 4G network for connectivity.

“Telstra does not operate the EFTPOS network, it is operated by financial institutions – and while some EFTPOS terminals use 3G and 4G connectivity, many can also use fixed line/Wi-Fi/NBN internet connections which won’t be impacted.

“Retailers should contact their bank to find out how to switch between these methods.”

If you’re with Telstra, connecting your phone or device to a WiFi network may be a good option for you. If you can connect your phones & tablets to a WiFi, you will help reduce the strain on the mobile network throughout the 6 days.
