CFA volunteers from Ballan and Myrniong have turned up to a truck fire behind a Ballan roadhouse on the Melbourne-bound lanes of the Western Freeway.

Witnesses said a fire extinguisher was initially used on the blaze, but did not make a big impact – leading to a triple-zero call at 2.15pm today (Thursday).

The blaze spread to the back tyres of the scaffolding truck, causing acrid smoke to fill the air.

Three fire vehicles from Ballan turned up- as well as one from Myrniong.

It was under control by 2.31pm.

The service station entrance was closed for a short time.

Ballan firefighters remained on scene for at least 45 minutes.
