It is an idea that started in England – a way for children to be creative and contribute to a community during tough government lockdowns.

Ballan businesswoman Nadene Shugg started a Spoonville for Ballan a week ago and it already has a healthy population.

It’s in the garden bed in front of Noddy’s Cottage – a shop inside the Ballan Hotel complex on Inglis Street.

“We love it here, it’s such pretty place for us Spoony’s to live. We see plenty of people walk past and plenty of smiles on CHILDREN’s faces.”

“I love it here,” ‘Karen Spoon’ said.

“The wind in my hair, the warm sunlight through the day.

“It really is a wonderful place. I can’t imagine being anywhere else.

“The kids love us, they take their time to check out each and everyone of us. We love the attention.”

Calling from his secret lair, Dr Evil Spoon sniggered: “I would love to see the population of Spoonville grow to epic levels. It will help me in my bid for world domination!”

Nadene has wooden spoons available in her shop for kids.

Until now, it is understood there have been no wooden spoons available for sale at any of the Ballan retailers currently operating.

But it gets better…

Nadene’s spoons were donated, so she there is no charge for the utensils-cum-Spoonvillians:

Spoonville Rules
– Place you Spoony person during your exercise
– I’m afraid Spoony people are not keen on dogs. (Dogs please stay back)
– Make sure your Spoony person can handle weather. (Nail varnish is good for our faces)
– Make sure bits wont fly off your spoony person. (We don’t want to litter)
– Come and see the Spoony people, but don’t stay too long. Others want to see too.
