The Department of Health and Human Services has confirmed that a student at Melton Specialist School has tested positive to COVID19.

As a result, the school will be closed for at least three days, starting tomorrow (July 2).

During the closure, DHHS and the school will undertake a complete risk assessment and deep clean.

“The Department of Health and Human Services has advised that all our students and staff are requested to remain at home while contact tracing occurs,” a school spokesperson said in a statement.

“If you are identified as being a potential close contact, DHHS will be in contact to discuss the appropriate next steps, including testing.”

“We wish the student a speedy recovery and look forward to welcoming them back to school next term once they have recovered.”

It comes as the number of COVID19 cases in the Melton council area jumps by two overnight to 64. That is up from 49 a week ago.

The municipality includes Caroline Springs, Ravenhall, Rockbank, Hillside, Burnside and Taylors Hill.

Postcode 3038 – including Keilor Downs, Keilor Lodge, Taylors Lakes and Watergardens – is one of 10 currently in stage-3 lockdown.
