The State Opposition says CFA trainers and 171 support staff – including some former Fiskville personnel – still don’t know if they’ll be working for the CFA or Fire Rescue Victoria from July 1.
FRV is a new body that will oversee career firefighters currently under the CFA banner from Wednesday next week.
“On the eve of a major reform to Victoria’s fire services, CFA now has no Chief Officer (after Steve Warrington resigned this week) and there is a state of confusion for CFA staff and 54,000 volunteers,” Shadow Emergency Services Minister Nick Wakeling said.
“CFA training staff in the Ballan area have been without a facility for more than five years while the Premier has dithered and delayed on its replacement.
“Daniel Andrews must end the chaos and dysfunction in Victoria’s fire services, and guarantee there will be no cuts to CFA staff in Ballan.”
The Fiskville training centre will be replaced with a new facility under construction in Ingliston Rd, next to the Ballan Industrial Estate.
The birth of FRV on Wednesday will be one of the most significant organizational changes in the CFA’s history.
It comes as the State Opposition accuses the Andrews Government of setting FRV boundaries around stations with paid firefighters without consulting an independent panel, the CFA or local communities.
The coalition alleges the boundaries are being widened for brigades at Lucas, Lara and Moe via a new emergency services Bill.
Melton will also come under the FRV banner. Its boundaries extend to the border with the Moorabool Shire.
It joins Caroline Springs, Corio and Hoppers Crossing in the switch.
