The Federal Government is handing over $986,830 to maintain Ballarat-electorate roads under the Roads to Recovery program.

All up $190 million will be given in the latest round to 332 councils Australia-wide.

“The Roads to Recovery funding will allow councils across the area to progress a number of high-priority projects, using local knowledge to deliver the best local roads,” Liberal Ballarat duty-senator Senator Henderson said.

“This investment in regional communities serves to both reduce the road toll through much needed road-safety improvements and create local jobs in regional cities and towns.”

Under the same Federal fund this financial year, $881,703 was set aside for major maintenance on Werribee Vale Rd in Maddingley to transform it from a rural road to a thoroughfare for large amounts of suburban traffic.

Another $400,000 was also spent on Blackwood Rd Ballan (pictured) for improved drainage and a new road surface.

The marginal seat of Corangamite received $2,339,358 under the program, while Bendigo was handed $1,419,746 and Corio $1,380,700.
