Police have arrested two men over 31 alleged burglaries in areas including Bungaree, Bannockburn, Daylesford and Trentham.

Detectives from the Hobsons Bay CIU have interviewed a 28-year-old from Werribee South and a 38-year-old from Altona.

They faced Melbourne Magistrates Court tonight (Thursday), both charged with more than 50 offences including burglary, theft and traffic offences.

Police allege small businesses such as post offices, cafes, milk bars and laundromats were targeted – and in each case a stolen car or motorbike was used and cash or cigarettes were taken during break-ins.

So far, incidents have been reported in Altona, Altona Meadows, Altona North, Williamstown, Seaford, Caulfield, Rowville, Bannockburn, Highton, Croydon, Daylesford, Woodend, Trentham, Point Cook and Bungaree.

Warrants were executed in Maidstone St, Altona and Cunninghams Rd, Werribee South early today.

The pair will be kept in custody until they face court again on Wednesday (June 24).

The investigation is ongoing.
