So many events and gatherings have been cancelled or rescheduled due to COVID19 restrictions. But, Bacchus Marsh’s Biggest Morning Tea event is still going ahead.
The event has been organised by Carrie Clancy to help raise money for the Cancer Council.
Two years ago, Carrie hosted a small get-together with her mums group and had her friends over with their then two-year-olds and some newborns. Surprisingly, two women in the group had been diagnosed with breast cancer the previous year. Thankfully, both went into remission and are doing well today.
That year Carrie raised $300 for the Cancer Council.
In 2019 Carrie and her team raised over $1000, so with COVID19 Carrie was wondering how to raise money this year.
During lockdown Carrie said her saving grace was her neighbours. In the early part of lockdown, they would bake each other goodies and leave notes with no contact.
“On Easter Sunday, it seemed there was a surprise chocolate nearly every time we opened the door. We decorated our front windows and yards with teddies, rainbows and poppies” Carrie says.
It is ambitious, but I would like to invite the entire town of Bacchus Marsh to join me in celebrating the bond between neighbours.
Towns like Bacchus Marsh reach out and support each other when it is needed.
By joining me at my Biggest Morning Tea or making a donation, we can fund world-class research to unlock more answers and get us closer to a cancer free future.
“We’ve started to gain some great momentum and the donations have started coming in online.“
Carrie has also organised a raffle which MANY small businesses have donated to. “I’ve been really amazed by peoples generosity.” Tickets are $5 and are available at Jonesys, F45, and Interior Motive on Main Street.
